We are all experiencing the challenges of quarantine. I have taken a few moments away from home schooling, baking, painting, decorating and dog walking to document simple key mouth health messages to help you keep smiling.
Unfortunately dental practices are temporarily closed in order to protect patients and staff. If you have any questions or concerns contact your dental practice.
This doesn’t stop your home care regime though!
Snacking:
Being at home you might reach for a few more snacks! Watch out, snacking may increase your risk of dental decay! Try to stick to your regular meal times and if you do have a snack try to make it a savoury one.
What about the kids?
Its also key to set out structure for the children. Again, stick to regular mealtimes and organise and plan the snack times ahead. As well as having water on hand, it might be helpful to set a snack box with healthy snacks such as bread sticks, cheese or nuts inside. This will help everybody stay on track and reduce the risk of grazing and tooth decay.
Brushing:
Stick to brushing twice per day with fluoride toothpaste. Spit out and don’t rinse the benefits away. Adults use a pea size splodge and under 3 year olds just a tiny smear.
Interdental cleaning:
What about in between your teeth? Yes, its equally as important to remove plaque bacteria in between your teeth as it is anywhere else. You will reduce the risk of inflammation/ gum disease by getting in to this every day habit. Interdental brushes are the most suitable cleaning aid to keep your gums in order.
Stay hydrated:
Drink plenty of water. Your body is made up of 60% water. This helps maintain bodily functions, such as digestion and creation of saliva. In turn this helps transport nutrients around our bodies.
Stay safe.
Best wishes
