When you’re ready to quit, whether it’s No Smoking Day or any other day of the year, you can find all the tools and support you need at http://www.nosmokingday.org.uk. I am not going to tell you off for smoking, there are plenty of healthcare professionals that can do that and I think the chances are that you know that my recommendation would be to give up. In the meantime, there are some things to consider when it comes to your dental health as a smoker.
- As smoking carries risks, it is important to visit the dental hygienist or Therapist regularly to keep an eye on your mouth, your gum condition and the plaque build up that occurs under the gum line
- Unfortunately smoking can mask the signs and symptoms of gum disease. This means you might not know how bad the problem is. It is also difficult to control gum disease in a smoker so we should take care of you more frequently.
- You may find that more regular visits to the dentist are beneficial in reducing some of the staining that smoking can cause
Everybody has a different reason for giving up, your reason might be to improve your oral health and in turn your overall health.
